Rara Lake lies in the remote region of Karnali, North West of Kathmandu, Nepal and the area surrounding Rara Lake was declared as a National Park in 1976. Rara Lake is the largest lake in Nepal and it is considered to be the cardle of the ancient Malla civilization.
Rara Lake is situated at the high altitude and that’s why trekkers can find pine spruce, juniper forest and snow capped Himalayan peaks. Government resettled the Charpa and Rara villages of Rara Lake when the area was declared as a national park.
Rara Lake is the focal point of the park where some well preserved forest and abundance of wildlife are found in the protected area. The highlights of the Rara lake are unsurpassed lake and mountain scenery, wildlife (musk deer and black bear).
Individual trekkers will not be issued trekking permit.
